Keyword spotting is the particular speech recognition task that identifies a (usually) small set of keywords from an arbitrary signal.
In the distan-talking scenarios no push-to-talk button is possible: the system is always active and ready to properly react to the user requests. Robust mechanisms for detecting valid inputs or rejecting undesired speech are required: a suitable keyword spotting strategy allows to safely initiate an interaction with the system.
The recent activities regard the implementation in real environments of keyword spotting solutions of different complexity, e.g. investigating the resulting performance with variable number and length of the activating utterances.
